BIOGRAPHY

Instrumentalist (saxophone, flute, clarinet), composer, arranger, and teacher. He is a member of the Brasil Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica as a baritone saxophonist and master in Jazz performance at Jazzcampus – FHNW/Musik Akademie Basel/Switzerland. His saxophone mentors were Daniel Blanc and Mark Turner.


He is a bachelor's in music (saxophone)- from FAAM/FMU. He has taken saxophone lessons with Isidoro Longano (Bolão), David Richards, and Rodrigo Ursaia; improvisation classes with Frank Herzberg; arrangement lessons with Claudio Leal and Todd Murphy.
He participated as a scholar at the winter festivals in Campos de Jordão and Tatuí. He participated as a scholar at the UCLA Institute in Los Angeles, taking lessons and playing with James Moody, Artur Sandoval, Bob Mintzer, Diana Krall, Alex Acuña, and Christian McBride. He played at the HMI Orchestra and HMI Big Band, which conductors were Jorge Calandrelli, Gunther Schuller, Lennie Niehaus, Patrick Willians, and Justin DiCioccio.


He regularly performs with a variety of bands, such as Banda Jazzco, Cacique Jazz Combo, Comboio Band, Banda Urbana and Nelson Ayres Big Band. He played with many renowned musicians, including Eumir Deodato, Spok, Proveta, Vinícius Dorin, Trio Corrente, Roberto Menescal, besides concerts with singers Simoninha, Fernanda Porto, Lucinha Lins, Virgínia Rosa, Célia, Fabiana Cozza, Paula Lima, Cauby Peixoto, Ivan Lins, Dudu França, Celine Imbert, Pedro Mariano, among others.


He was a finalist of the 1st and 5th Weril Awards for Young Wind Instrumentalist. He worked as conductor and arranger of the Orquestra Municipal Infanto Juvenil of Itapecerica da Serra, part of the Barracões Culturais da Cidadania project, from 2000 to 2004. 


He participated with the SaxFourSax saxophone quartet as an instrumentalist, arranger, and composer, where they performed at SESC units in the State of São Paulo from 1998 to 2013. He participated in musical orchestras playing woodwind instruments as titular and substitute musicians: Sweet Charity, The Producers, Cats, La Cage Aux Folles, Cabaret, The Addams Family, Shrek, The Drowsy Chaperone, Singing in the Rain, and Operilda na Orquestra Amazônica.In 2014, he joined the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Brazil as a baritone saxophonist. He was in charge of two art education projects at SESI-SP: "Wind Instruments" with Duo Madeira de Lei and "Três Poetas da MPB" with Trio Parra, which he performed as instrumentalist and arranger, between the period from 2013 to 2015.


In 2016, he participated in the concert PROMS 52, playing with the State of São Paulo Symphonic Orchestra and Big Band of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, under the regency of Marin Alsop at the Royal Albert Hall in London / UK, which was broadcasted live by BBC, receiving positive reviews. Also, in this same year, he began his project CHICO MACEDO 4TETO, presenting his compositions and arrangements for Brazilian music classics.


In 2017, he was the music director and arranger of the concert celebrating Tom Jobim's 90th birthday, with CHICO MACEDO 4TETO, featuring the singers Ricardo Arantes, Andressa Parra, and Julia Baliero, performed at the Paulistano Club.


In 2020, he released his Album Chico Macedo 4teto, playing his arrangements and original compositions, and he will release his new album, Live In Basel, this year.
